When I first got the Godox TT520 II, I was just starting out with flash photography. This was my first flash.. The manual controls were easy to understand, even for a beginner like me then.

Performance in Action

In terms of performance, the TT520 II didn’t disappoint. I primarily used it in manual mode, adjusting the flash output to match different shooting scenarios. It also has S1 and S2 slave modes, which I found useful for off-camera flash work.

The recycle time was decent. It runs on  four AA batteries. I used rechargeable batteries to cut costs. The battery life was sufficient for my typical photo sessions, and I always had spare batteries on hand just in case.

Learning Curve

As a beginner, the TT520 II was a perfect starting point. It forced me to understand the fundamentals of flash photography, such as adjusting power levels and positioning the flash for optimal results. Although it doesn’t support TTL metering, this limitation actually helped me learn more about manual flash settings and how to control light effectively.

Compatibility

The TT520 II worked seamlessly with my DSLR. Its standard hot shoe compatibility meant I didn’t have to worry about any special adapters or compatibility issues, making it a versatile addition to my gear.

Continued Use with Advanced Setup

Even now, as my lighting setup has expanded to include other Godox lights, I still find the TT520 II to be incredibly useful. By using the Godox X1R receiver for Sony and syncing it with my Godox XPro S trigger, I can integrate the TT520 II seamlessly into my more advanced lighting configurations just in case i need an extra light .
